Boxer Rescue (UK)
FAQ
(Frequently Asked Questions)
This page is here to help you decide if a rescue Boxer is for
you and to let you know the rehoming procedures of Boxer Rescue (UK).
Question 1: What information do I need to give?
Answer: Before we consider rehoming
a dog to a new home, we would need some information to satisfy ourselves that
you are committed to having a rescue dog, and also to answer some questions
before I conduct a home visit with yourselves.
Question 2: Is a home visit necessary?
Answer: Yes it is! NO
dog leaves Boxer Rescue until we are sure that the Boxer is going to stay in
a happy, secure environment for life. The home check is conducted by Sam
(our loveable rogue Boxer on the front page of our Web site) and myself. Sam
is an excellent judge, and going by his reaction (and yours!) I am able
to satisfy myself that you are suitable for a Boxer.
Question 3: What are you looking for in a new home?
Answer: The following list in
not exhaustive, and neither is it set in stone, but it is a good indication
of what we are looking for:
- The dog is going to be safe and secure. We look critically
at your external garden security, access gates, proximity to major roads,
for instance. Open plan gardens are not a good idea with a Boxer! Internally,
we look for problem areas where a dog may injure itself - plate glass room
dividers with no visible sign to the dog that it is not a clear run through;
staircases with no balustrades so a dog could jump from a height; and some
form of vestibule or means to stop a dog escaping straight out of the front
door.
- Your doggy experience. We accept that there is always
a first time for everything, so a rescue boxer may be your first dog, but
we will need to satisfy ourselves that you are going to be able to cope with
a bouncy Boxer! I look at how you react to Sam's attentions, and then,
if I am happy, I will introduce your new dog - again assessing both you and
the dog to endure we have a good match. Boxers, it can safely be said,
are not everyone's cup of tea, but once smitten with the Boxer bug you will
never want another breed!
- The dog is going to live in a stable home. Splits
will occur in even the closest families, but we do try to gauge the family
atmosphere during our visit - in particular to see if only one member of the
family is keen on a dog! We are not old-fashioned, and recognise that marriage
is not the norm nowadays, but we need to satisfy ourselves that every member
of the household is committed to having a Boxer from us, and the Boxer is
not going to be 'homeless' in a short time. (Part of the acceptance
contract is that the Boxer must be returned to Boxer Rescue (UK) if the dog
cannot be kept, for any reason).
