Hello there. I came from the Liverpool area originally. I am getting on a bit now in years and like to spend my day asleep on my mum's side of the bed, but I can still jump around with the youngsters here at Boxer Rescue. Mind you, I am getting a bit hard of hearing now, but it does come in useful if I don't want to come when called!
I've been living here now for nearly a year, and I am very happy to stay. I was used purely for breeding, and was sold as a puppy for that purpose - 'on breeding terms', as it is called. I've had a few litters over the years, and so I haven't got much of a figure now. I am only a little Boxer, and look quite podgy, with hanging teats from feeding all my puppies. My pups were always taken away from me by my original breeder as soon as they were weaned and that was the last I ever saw of them. My owners did keep one of my babies, though, and we lived together, producing litters for our original breeders, and an income for our owners.
Our owners emigrated, passing us on to other family members. We lived together in a back garden with a big wooden kennel for shelter. I think we were happy, but we rarely went into the house except for a treat. We were still used as breeding bitches, and we helped each other with the pups as they came along.
Now it was the turn of our new owners to emigrate. We had no idea what was to become of us, after all, I was eight years old, and JESSIE, my daughter, was five. One day a lady called round to see us from Boxer Rescue. She promised to try and find us a new home together, but it was very difficult because of my age. Not many people want oldies, they want pups or young Boxers instead.
JESSIE was eventually taken to a new home after being treated for thyroid deficiency, but I stayed with Boxer Rescue. I was actually taken to a new home - twice! The first time I jumped into my mum's arms. I clung onto her and wouldn't let go. The second time I was taken to meet JESSIE, to see if we would be happy together again. JESSIE and I didn't get on, and she kept growling at me. I ran straight back to the open van door and jumped into the cab! That was a real leap for a little old lady, but I managed it! I sat there waiting for my mum to come back, impatiently. "OK Pops - you've made your point. You're with us for ever now" she said as she hugged me. I had a home for life, and I was so pleased.
As you can see from Poppy's story, the dogs that we keep here permanently are given a second chance to lead as normal a life as possible.
If you would like to sponsor, or help us continue giving George a normal life, then please contact us.
